Therapy for Highly Sensitive People
in Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan
At LIV Mental Wellness, we provide online therapy for highly sensitive people (HSPs) who feel deeply attuned to their surroundings and the emotions of others. Our virtual therapy sessions are available across Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
You notice the things other people miss. Sometimes, it’s exhausting.
You may notice every small shift in someone’s tone or feel tension in a room before anyone else acknowledges it. Your body reacts quickly to noise, light, or touch, and while you might need more downtime to recharge, you’ve often been told you’re “too sensitive.” Therapy can help you understand and honor these traits instead of seeing them as flaws.
Our goal is to help you move from constant overstimulation, anxiety, or emotional shutdown into a life where sensitivity feels like a strength, not a burden. Through nervous system regulation, boundary setting, and self-compassion therapy, you can build the resilience needed to thrive as a highly sensitive person.
At LIV Mental Wellness, we understand that high sensitivity isn’t something to fix — it’s part of who you are. Our trauma-informed, holistic therapy helps you steady your mind and body, release guilt, and reconnect with your core values.

The Struggles of Being Highly Sensitive
About one in five people are highly sensitive. For some, that means they feel emotions more strongly. For others, it shows up in sensory sensitivities like sound, light, or textures.
When it’s supported, this trait can bring intuition, empathy, and creativity. When it’s not, it can lead to stress, burnout, and a sense of being misunderstood.
Does this sound familiar?
- You feel drained after being in crowded or noisy environments.
- You pick up on other people’s emotions so strongly that you feel them as your own.
- You wonder why life seems to take more energy for you than it does for others.
- You avoid situations because you know they'll be overstimulating.
- You care so much about others’ feelings that your own needs get sidelined.
- You feel deeply affected by criticism, even when it’s gentle or well-meant.
- You feel overwhelmed by big emotions and unsure how to calm down.
- You need extra time to recharge after social events or long days.
- You've been told you're “too sensitive” or that you “take things too personally”.
- You struggle when things change suddenly, or when routines don’t go as planned.
If these experiences resonate, know this:
Your sensitivity is not a flaw. With the right support, it can become one of your greatest strengths.

Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy for HSP's
Is high sensitivity a disorder?
No. High sensitivity, sometimes called Sensory Processing Sensitivity, is a natural temperament trait found in about 20% of people. It’s not a diagnosis or illness. Therapy helps you manage the overwhelm that can come with sensitivity and turn it into something supportive.
How do I know if I’m highly sensitive?
Many people notice patterns such as being easily overstimulated, having deep empathy, being highly conscientious, needing more downtime than others, or feeling deeply affected by criticism and emotions. There’s also a self-test called the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) Scale that can give you more clarity. Whether or not you use the label, therapy can help if sensitivity is shaping your life in ways that feel heavy.
Can therapy help if I’ve been sensitive my whole life?
Yes. Sensitivity is part of who you are, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with the overwhelm forever. Therapy gives you tools to recharge, set boundaries, and respond to stress in ways that support you, rather than drain you.
Why do I feel everything so intensely - even “small” stressors?
Highly sensitive people often have a finely tuned nervous system that registers subtle changes deeply. That means minor stressors can feel magnified – but there are ways to calm and stabilize that system.
What’s the difference between high sensitivity, sensory processing disorder, and autism?
They can look similar but aren’t the same. High sensitivity is a personality trait, while SPD and autism are clinical diagnoses. A therapist can help you explore your experiences without pathologizing them.
What if I’m not sure this is the right fit?
That’s completely okay. We offer a complimentary, no-pressure meet & greet so you can ask questions and see if working with our team feels like the right fit for you.
